The Federal Ministry of Education has commended Nigerian Breweries’ Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund for its outstanding contributions to the educational sector, particularly through the Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition, which marks a decade of excellence this year.
Dr. Sununu highlighted the far-reaching impacts of Nigerian Breweries’ contributions, which extend beyond their well-known Teacher of the Year Award. He acknowledged their efforts in infrastructural rehabilitation, mental health counseling for students, and providing critical instructional materials such as textbooks. “In a time when the reading culture is declining, your contribution to making textbooks available is pivotal. This effort combats the decline in academic engagement,” Sununu remarked.
The Honourable Minister further applauded the trust fund’s recent $1 million donation towards educational infrastructure and urged other private entities to emulate this generous initiative. Reflecting on the theme of this year’s Maltina Teacher of the Year Award, “A Decade of Inspiring Excellence in Teaching,” Sununu expressed optimism that the initiative would continue to expand, reaching local government areas in the future.
Beyond education, Dr. Sununu also praised Nigerian Breweries’ contributions to cultural development, including their support of the Gata Cultural Festival in Yawuri. Emphasizing the pressing issue of out-of-school children, he called on the Maltina Education Trust Fund to consider allocating resources to help re-enroll the over 10 million children currently out of school.
Mrs. Sade Morgan, Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries, expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s continuous support, which has been instrumental in the growth of the Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative. She reiterated the Trust Fund’s commitment to providing essential infrastructure and learning resources across schools in Nigeria and looked forward to the upcoming award ceremony in October, where Dr. Sununu will serve as the Special Guest of Honor.
The Federal Ministry of Education values public-private partnerships in advancing education and recognizes Nigerian Breweries as a key partner in shaping the nation’s educational landscape.
