FG appoints Medical Directors for FMC Jabi and Yenagoa

The Federal Government has approved the appointment of Dr. James Omietimi as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for an initial term of 4 (four) years with effect from February 27, 2024 and the re-appointment of Professor Sa’ad Ahmed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jabi Abuja for a second 4(four) year term with effect from February 27, 2024.

Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, while presenting the letters of appointments to the Medical Directors recently in Abuja, said their appointments is purely based on merit and charged them to ensure that the system at their hospitals are effective. “Make it better, make service available to the people, every single Nigerian is entitled to meaningful, quality and comprehensive healthcare. For you to succeed you must carry everybody along as a team, operate an all-inclusive open door policy, create a good working atmosphere and work in unity of purpose with all stakeholders.”

“You have to work harder to ensure that your Centres continues to provide quality health care to justify the confidence reposed in you by your appointment and work with all stakeholders for industrial peace and harmony.”

Speaking further, Dr. Alausa informed the Medical Directors of the recently launched Nigeria digital in health initiative, a platform for the digitalization of health records that will improve patients experience, protect patient data as well as improve patient’s health outcomes which all Federal Tertiary Hospitals will be part of, and in the future State Governments will plug into the digital platform. He expressed confidence in the newly appointed Medical Directors, expecting them to leverage their expertise to ensure the consistent delivery of quality healthcare services in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.

The Medical Directors expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ministry of Health & Social Welfare for finding them worthy for this national assignment and pledged to deliver quality healthcare services to Nigerians while fulfilling all their statutory obligations and duties in accordance with the action plan of the health sector.

Dr. Omietimi is specialized in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. While Prof. Sa’ad Ahmed, is a Professor of Pathology.
