The Federal Government has flagged off the disbursement of Grant Project for Rural Women of N20,000 to 2,800 Women in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq said, ‘ 200 Beneficiaries across 6 local government Areas of Anka, Bungudu ,Birnin Magaji, Kauran Namoda, Tsafe, and Talatar Mafara, will benefit from this grant in the state’.
According to the Minister, “Cash disbursement in Gusau is in line with the directives of President Muhammadu Buhari, and his commitment to protecting and promoting the plight of the poor and vulnerable in the country”.
“Grant of N20,000.00 will be disbursed to over 150,000 poor rural women across the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory”.
She said “The Grant for Rural Women programme was introduced to sustain the social inclusion agenda of the Buhari Administration, including the realization of the national aspiration of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years. It is designed to provide a one-off grant to some of the poorest and most vulnerable rural women in Nigeria”.
Continuing, “The grant is expected to increase access to financial capital required for economic activities. It is our hope that the beneficiaries of this programme will make good use of the opportunity to increase their income, enhance their food security, and generally contribute towards improving their living standard”.
One of the recipients of the N20,000 grant, Saudatu Aliyu who is disabled, expressed delight in the disbursement and thanked President Buhari for remembering the vulnerable at difficult times like this.
Earlier, the Zamfara state Governor, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle Maradun, commended the Federal Government for the intervention programmes, which he said, tallies with his administration’s effort to provide succor for the less privileged.
Governor Matawalle represented by the Secretary to the State Government [SSG], Alhaji Bala Bello, urged the federal government to release the N10 billion special intervention funds which it promised as support for victims of Armed Banditry, kidnappings, cattle rustling and flood disasters for immediate resettlement and assistance to the victims in order to cushion their hardships in the State.
