In its avowed determination to ensuring economic growth and development in the country, the Federal Government has procured and inaugurated State-of-the art tailoring equipment for the production of Made-in-Nigeria fabrics that can compete favourably with those produced across the globe.
The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, while inaugurating the equipment today in her Office in Abuja,
stated that the Ministry acquired the machines in line with its mandate to empower women to produce Made-in-Nigeria fabrics that can meet up with international standards.
This she added, will not only empower women economically but also contribute to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product.
Barrister Kennedy Ohanenye explained that the initiative was in line with the policy thrust of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration which she added, include among others, job creation, poverty alleviation, inclusivity of women in political and economic activities aimed at making them self reliant with a view to contributing their quota to the upkeep of their families.
While calling on Nigerians to support this laudable initiatives of government by patronising the finished products, the Minister informed that the Ministry has already secured a ready market in the United States and will also go across the globe to attract more patronage for sales of the product so that they can make profit and thereby support their husbands in catering for their families.
She appealed to Nigerian women to take advantage of this policy initiative and key into the programme so as to empower themselves not only for the benefit of their families but also for the betterment of the society at large.
Speaking earlier, the House Committee Chairman on Science, Research Institutions, Honourable Beni Lar applauded the Minister for her doggedness and strategic approach towards addressing the plight of women and the vulnerable children in the society.
She commended the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration for creating a conducive environment for the empowerment of women in Nigeria.
The machines procured and inaugurated include industrial embroidery, straight sowing, button hole, cutting, among others.
