The Federal Government has formally launched the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) Personnel Online Discount Shop, a welfare initiative designed to provide serving personnel, veterans and their families with convenient access to essential goods at discounted prices.
The platform was launched today in Abuja by the Special Guest of Honour and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume CON who commended the Chief of Defence Staff, General O.O Oluyede, Defence Headquarters and all stakeholders who conceived and delivered the initiative.
In his address at the launch, the Special Guest of Honour stated that the welfare of those who serve the nation extends beyond operational capabilities, noting that a motivated and resilient Armed Forces is sustained by the assurance that the wellbeing of its personnel and families remains a priority.
He described the initiative as a welcome contribution to the Federal Government’s comprehensive welfare framework, which seeks to ease financial pressures, improve access to essential goods and services, and enhance the quality of life of personnel.
Sen. Akume also highlighted the innovative nature of the project, which leverages digital technology through the Konga platform in partnership with Zinox Group. He said the platform demonstrates how technology and strategic partnerships can be harnessed to deliver practical benefits to citizens who have dedicated themselves to the service and security of the nation.
He particularly welcomed the inclusion of veterans and their families in the scheme, stating that their sacrifices and contributions in times of peace and during national security challenges deserve continued recognition and support.
Earlier at the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group. The Special Guest of Honour commended both parties, noting that the MoU provides a framework for sustainable cooperation between the Armed Forces and the private sector and demonstrates the possibilities that emerge when public institutions and responsible private organisations combine capabilities in pursuit of a shared national objective.
He urged Defence Headquarters and all stakeholders to ensure that implementation remains transparent, reliable and responsive to beneficiaries’ needs, adding that the credibility of the initiative will be measured by the quality of service and tangible benefits it delivers.
The Special Guest of Honour expressed profound gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering support and commitment to the Armed Forces of Nigeria in line with his Renewed Hope Agenda.
He encouraged all eligible personnel and veterans to make effective use of the platform and formally launched the AFN Personnel Online Discount Shop for the benefit of personnel, veterans, their families and the nation.
