The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with state governments to deliver sustainable humanitarian interventions and expand social protection initiatives across Nigeria.
The Minister gave the assurance while receiving the Kaduna State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Comrade Yunana Markus Barde, who paid him a courtesy visit alongside the Chairman, Kaduna State House of Assembly Committee on Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Umar Auwal Bajimi, at his office in Abuja.
During the meeting, Dr. Doro highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing reforms, including the recently launched National Poverty Lab, designed to strengthen evidence-based policymaking and accelerate poverty reduction efforts. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with state governments through the One Humanitarian, One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS) to deliver coordinated, sustainable and people-centred humanitarian interventions across the country.
The Honourable Minister also commended the Kaduna State Commissioner for his consistent participation and support for the Ministry’s flagship programmes, including the launch of the One Humanitarian, One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS) and other major humanitarian engagements. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining collaboration with Kaduna State and expressed his intention to visit the state to further strengthen the partnership and advance shared humanitarian priorities.
Earlier, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs congratulated the Honourable Minister on the recent wedding of his daughter and commended the Ministry’s efforts in fostering stronger collaboration with state governments. He appealed for Federal Government support towards the humanitarian councils established across Kaduna State’s local government areas and called for enhanced interventions for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in the state.
In another development, the Honourable Minister has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with Niger state government in addressing humanitarian challenges across the country.
The Minister gave the assurance while receiving the Niger State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, who led a delegation, including the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Directors and Senior officials of the ministry, on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Inga congratulated the Honourable Minister on his leadership and commended the Ministry for fostering a stronger and more productive relationship with state humanitarian institutions. According to him, collaboration between the Federal Ministry and state ministries has never been more robust, describing the renewed partnership as timely and impactful.
The Commissioner noted that Niger State continues to face significant humanitarian challenges requiring sustained interventions. He recalled the Honourable Minister’s previous humanitarian interventions in the state, describing them as impactful and beneficial to affected communities, and appealed for continued Federal Government support to help address the state’s humanitarian needs.
In his response, the Honourable Minister appreciated the delegation for the visit and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with state governments to strengthen humanitarian response mechanisms, promote coordinated interventions and improve the well-being of vulnerable Nigerians.
Dr. Doro emphasized that effective humanitarian action requires strong partnerships across all levels of government and reiterated the Ministry’s resolve to continue supporting states through collaborative, people-centred and sustainable interventions.
