FG to Establish Engineering Materials, Equipment Development  Institute in Katsina

KATSINA – (FIC Katsina Report) – The National Agency For Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has entered into an agreement with the Katsina State Government on the establishment of Engineering Materials and Equipment Development Institute (EMEDI) in the State.

The Deputy Director for Information in NASENI, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan made this known on Wednesday 2nd of September, 2020 shortly after the leadership of the Agency paid a courtesy visit to the State Governor at his office. He mentioned that the Institute when established will commence skills acquisition and training, targeted at harnessing silica raw materials found in common sand which most States in Northern Nigeria have in abundance or in commercial quantities.

While speaking during their visit, the State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari attributed the surge in insecurity in the State and beyond to joblessness among the youths. He also said that Katsina State is reputable for its rich and abundant resources in silica, a major raw material needed for the manufacturing of solar cells, solar panels and even glass wares. He maintained that no nation or society can develop without investing in research and development or innovations.

Aminu Bello Masari indicated that this particular feat was what caused China to move from an extremely poor nation to current global reckoning of economic advancements. He espoused that the new Institute when established will immediately embark on solar cells research and developmentand the fabrication of equipment and machinery towards exploration of the silica minerals and glassware resources in the State.
