In its avowed determination to improve service delivery to Nigerians, the Federal Ministry of Finance has hosted a one-day sensitization programme on workplace safety and health for improved productivity, demonstrating its commitment to creating a safe and healthy work environment for its staff.
The programme, attended by staff of the Ministry, aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to mitigate risks, reduce workplace accidents, and enhance their personal health.
Discussions focused on various aspects of workplace safety and health, including physical safety protocols, mental health awareness, proper ergonomics, and stress management.
Declaring the programme open, the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Finance Mrs Lydia Shehu Jafiya stated that the sensitization workshop underscores our collective commitment to creating a safe and conducive working environment that enhances the health and wellbeing of all Staff within the Ministry.
Represented by the Director Special Projects Hajiya Aisha Omar, the Permanent Secretary informed that the foundation of any successful Institution rests not only on vision and leadership but equally on the wellbeing of its Employees.
She noted that a healthy workforce is a productive workforce. Our commitment to creating a safe and healthy work environment is not just about compliance with regulations, but also about fostering an atmosphere where each individual can thrive and perform their duties better.
The Permanent Secretary emphasized the significance of workplace safety and health, stating, it plays a vital role in reducing absenteeism, minimizing the risk of injuries and illnesses. As staff of the Ministry of Finance, we are entrusted with ensuring that Public Resources are well-managed and allocated for the benefit of our Nation. For us to fulfill this responsibility to the highest standards, we must first take care of the very individuals who contribute to the success of this Mission and that is you, our staff, she said.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Ministry’s Director of Human Resources, Mrs Olusola Dada, thanked the Permanent Secretary Mrs Lydia Shehu Jafiya for creating an enabling environment for the successful hosting of the sensitization workshop which she said will no doubt improve the health awareness of staff thereby enhancing their competencies and service delivery.
She called on staff to take advantage of the opportunity and utilise the knowledge gained in improving their health status within and beyond the workplace.
The programme featured expert resource persons who guided discussions on safety protocols, health promotion strategies, and the importance of fostering a culture of safety.
The workshop is a clear testimony of the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to prioritizing workplace safety and health, recognizing its critical role in improving productivity and overall success of the nation’s economy.
