FMIST Engages Stakeholders, Citizens On Implementation Of Science, Technology And Innovation Programmes

Hon. Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, delivering his speech at the 3rd Quarter 2026 Stakeholders’ and Citizens Ministerial Engagement on the Implementation of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policies, Projects and Programmes today in Abuja.

The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (FMIST) today in Abuja held its 3rd Quarter 2026 Stakeholders and Citizens Ministerial Engagement on the implementation of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) policies, projects and programmes of the Federal Government.

The engagement, brought together relevant stakeholders, citizens, representatives of government agencies, research institutions, academia, industry and other critical players within the Science, Technology and Innovation ecosystem.

Declaring the engagement open, the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, said the programme was designed to strengthen accountability, transparency, inclusiveness and effective communication between the Ministry and the citizens it serves.

Udeh emphasized that STI remain critical instruments for addressing national challenges, accelerating economic development, creating employment opportunities and improving the quality of life of Nigerians.

According to him, the Federal Government recognizes that the successful implementation of STI policies and programmes requires continuous engagement with stakeholders and citizens, noting that their contributions, observations and feedback are essential to ensuring that government initiatives respond effectively to the needs and aspirations of the people.

He further stressed the importance of moving beyond research and innovation to the practical application and commercialization of ideas and technologies that can create value, generate employment and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.

The Minister called on stakeholders to actively participate in the engagement by providing constructive feedback on the implementation of the Ministry’s policies, projects and programmes, as well as identifying challenges and proffering practical solutions.

In his address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Mohammad,mni said that the engagement is an important platform for the Ministry to interact directly with stakeholders, listen to citizens’ concerns and obtain valuable feedback on the impact and implementation of its STI initiatives across the country. He added that the Federal Government recognizes STI as critical drivers of national development, economic diversification, job creation and improved quality of life for Nigerians.

Dr. Muhammad emphasized that the successful implementation of STI policies and programmes requires the collective efforts of government institutions, researchers, academia, the private sector, development partners, innovators and citizens.

Earlier the President of Nigerians Academia of Science (NAS) Prof. Abubakar Sambo, said that there is need for sustaining investment in research development adding that adequate funding is essential for strengthening Nigerian scientific technological capacity.
He called on stakeholders to create an enabling environment for innovation, while building the capacity of young Nigerians to participate meaningfully in the country ‘s emerging science ecosystem.
