FMIST Minister to Address COREN Engineering Assembly as FG Reaffirms Engineering as Catalyst for National Development

The Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging engineering as a critical driver of innovation, industrialisation, infrastructure development and sustainable economic growth. The Minister made the remarks while receiving a delegation from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), led by its President, Engr. Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

Dr. Udeh reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with COREN in advancing research commercialisation, technology transfer, indigenous innovation and the development of a globally competitive engineering workforce. He stressed that closer partnerships among government, professional bodies, academia and industry are essential to accelerating Nigeria’s technological advancement and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister commended COREN for its unwavering commitment to promoting professionalism, excellence and ethical standards in the engineering profession, noting that the Ministry looks forward to deepening collaboration through strategic initiatives and joint programmes that will strengthen Nigeria’s Science, Technology and Innovation ecosystem and enhance national competitiveness.

Earlier, the President of COREN, Engr. Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to regulating the engineering profession through high professional standards, capacity building and ethical practice. He formally invited the Honourable Minister as one of the guest speaker at the 34th Engineering Assembly, scheduled to commence on 14 July 2026 in Abuja, where he is expected to address participants on the critical role of innovation, science and technology in advancing engineering for national development.
