Great Nigerian Women, Great
Dear Christian Mothers,
On this special and auspicious occasion of Mothering Sunday, I extend my warmest congratulations and heartfelt appreciation to all Christian mothers across Nigeria. Today is a day of honour, reflection, and celebration; a moment to recognize the immense contributions of mothers in shaping our homes, communities, and nation.
- A mother’s love is one of the greatest forces on earth. It is selfless, resilient, and unwavering. From the cradle to adulthood, mothers nurture, guide, and instill the virtues of faith, integrity, and service. Your dedication to raising responsible children, strengthening family bonds, and upholding moral values is truly commendable.
- This year, as we mark Mothering Sunday, we recall the theme “Accelerate Action,” I therefore urge every Christian mother to rise and take even greater strides in building a more inclusive, progressive, and compassionate society. The world is changing rapidly, and the need for bold action to address gender equality, women’s empowerment, and family well-being has never been more urgent.
“Accelerate Action” means:
(i). Empowering women to take leadership roles in their communities, churches, and society.
(ii) Advocating for the rights of women and children, ensuring that no mother suffers discrimination, violence, or neglect.
(iii) Educating the next generation with values that promote peace, unity, and national development.
(iv) Championing economic empowerment by embracing entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency to support families and contribute to Nigeria’s growth.
- As mothers, you are not just caregivers; you are change-makers. Your influence extends beyond your homes to the larger society, where your voices and actions can drive positive transformation. Now is the time to accelerate action in ensuring a safer, healthier, and more equitable Nigeria for women and children.
- As the Minister of Women Affairs, I want to assure you that the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs remains committed to policies and programmes that uplift mothers, protect their rights, and create opportunities for their advancement. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every mother in Nigeria has access to economic empowerment, quality healthcare, and a secure environment to raise their children.
- On this auspicious occasion, I encourage you to stand firm in faith, embrace your divine calling, and continue to lead with love, wisdom, and strength. May God bless and reward you abundantly for all you do.
- Happy Mothering Sunday! Long live Nigerian Women!! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Signed
Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, fsi,
Honourable Minister of Women Affairs
Federal Republic of Nigeria
