Abia Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu says the executive and the legislature in the State play complementary roles in the effort of making life better for the people.
The Governor stated this while receiving in audience, a delegation of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association led by its Executive Committee’s Chairperson.
He said the relationship between the executive and legislature in the State is cordial
The Governor, who identified with the advocacy and views of the group assured that Abia State would participate and ensure the Association actualises its dreams.
He stressed the need for Africans to appreciate those good qualities that define Africans, which he maintained are embeded in them.
Also speaking, the Speaker, Abia House of Assembly, Mr. Chikwendu Kalu said the essence of the Association is to galvanise Parliamentarians as there cannot be good governance without good law -making. He maintained that the onus lies on the legislatures to ensure good governance and protection of interest of the masses reteriating that parliaments should be used to build synergy among countries as well as fight terrorism.
Earlier, the Chairperson, Executive Committee, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Lindiwe Maseko said the group was in the State as part of its mandate of visiting individual branches of Commonwealth Parliamentary Associations.
She emphasised that the Association holds the issue of oversight between the legislature and executive in high esteem.
The Chairperson, however, commended Governor Ikpeazu for promoting the locally made products also informed that Imo State would be hosting the African Conference of the Association in November. End.
