FIC Report (Kano State) – Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Director General of the State Security Services (SSS) Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi for their unwavering commitment to national security.
The commendation came during the North-West Zonal Directors of Security Conference held in Kano.
Welcoming participants from Katsina, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States, Governor Yusuf described the gathering as “a vital platform to exchange ideas, share experiences, and adopt new coordinated dialogue.”
He noted that Kano’s role as the most populous and cosmopolitan state in the zone, stressing that security challenges in neighboring states inevitably affect Kano.
Citing a recent incident, the Governor recalled the kidnapping of Alhaji Hamza Musa Durba, Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area, who was rescued following a swift intelligence-led operation. “There is no doubt that our security and intelligence agencies deserve absolute commendation,” Yusuf stated.
He lauded President Tinubu’s administration for substantial investments in security, noting that “the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose determination to secure Nigeria and Nigerians strengthens our collective resolve.”
He also acknowledged the DSS’s constant interception of arms and ammunition intended for other states, describing it as critical in curbing violent groups.
While Kano has remained relatively peaceful, the Governor admitted the state is “not immune to prevailing security challenges,” listing banditry, seasonal farmers-herders’ conflicts, cyber bullying, and disruptive actions of miscreants among the threats.
He commended the Kano State Command of the DSS for its proactive role in containing these issues, working in synergy with sister agencies.
Declaring the conference open, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s support for security agencies: “I trust that your deliberations will yield fresh ideas to safeguard our people and promote the socio-economic development of the State.”
The Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kano, Hussein Abubakar, has stressed the importance of collaboration and intelligence-led strategies in tackling security challenges across the North-West. Abubakar said.
He noted that the conference was in line with the vision of the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, to strengthen regional cooperation and intelligence sharing.
Abubakar stressed the need for enhanced synergy among security agencies. “It is equally important to factor the need for enhanced synergy between the SDSes and other enforcement agencies towards prompt and decisive containment of endemic, prevailing and emerging threats to security, public safety and national unity,” he stated.
He listed key threats confronting the region, including banditry, arms and ammunition trafficking, cyber-bullying, illegal mining, sabotage of national assets, and hate campaigns. According to him, “The task of containing these threats is not negotiable. Hence, the determination of the Service as the lead intelligence agency to covertly procure, process and disseminate actionable intelligence to sister security agencies.”
The DSS Director further explained that the Service is also engaged in tactical operations to complement enforcement agencies, while maintaining its mandate of protecting Nigeria’s democracy by providing development intelligence to stakeholders.
The Director expressed appreciation to the DGSS for enabling the Service to realize its full potential.
He also thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting the conference, and acknowledged the cooperation of sister security agencies. “Equally appreciated are the sister security agencies whose synergy and cooperation facilitates our task to a considerable extent,” he added.
In a remark, Director General Special Services Kano, Major General Muhammad Sani Retired, said the Northwest Region of Nigeria encompassing states such as Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto Jigawa and Zamfara is beset by plethora of security challenges that imperil the very fabric of societal cohesion and economic progress.
He added that the exigencies of banditry, kidnapping and communal clashes necessitate an unwavering collaboration between state government and the federal authorities to forge an unassailable bulwark against these threats.
Also speaking, Commissioner of Police Kano, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Operation, DCP Lawal Mani said the conference serves as a call to renewed efforts for collaboration and synergy among security agencies in the state.
He added that the collaboration is yielding a fruitful results in crime fighting and intelligence gathering.
