Abia Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has assented to the 2020 Appropriation Law of One hundred and thirty-seven billion, four hundred and nineteen million, six hundred and seventeen thousand one hundred and sixteen naira only.
Signing the Abia State 2020 appropriation bill christened “Budget Of Economic Repositioning” into law at Government House, Umuahia, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu lauded the leadership of the State House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the bill.
The Governor said that since the assumption of office, this is the first time he is signing an appropriation law as early. He assured that his administration would do all within its powers to implement the budget.
According to him, the budget aims at helping the rapid development of the State as well as impacting on the lives of Abia people and promised to ensure timely execution of projects captured in the budget. He assured that he would do better in terms of percentage performance as far as expected funds are available and used the forum to advise various Ministries and implementation units to adhere to the budget.
Presenting the approved 2020 appropriation bill to the Governor, the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon Chinedum Orji said the House made it mandatory that the budget must be passed into law before the end of the year as it did not want delays or infractions.
The Speaker said the bill was passed into law to make the Governor’s work easier and expressed hope that the Governor would follow to the later the document as presented by the House of Assembly.
According to him, the House will like to see not less than 70% implementation of the budget.
