FIC Report (Kano State) – In a major political development, Kano State Governor, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reshuffled his state executive council to enhance governance and align with his administration’s goals. The announcement, made on Thursday, December 12, 2024, through a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, marks the first significant reorganization since he assumed office. The changes are aimed at improving administrative efficiency and delivering better dividends of democracy to Kano’s residents.
One of the key decisions in the reshuffle was the scrapping of the Chief of Staff position, previously held by Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi. Additionally, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), was relieved of his duties on health grounds. These changes underscore Governor Yusuf’s determination to streamline governance and address challenges affecting optimal performance.
Several commissioners retained their roles, reflecting confidence in their performance. These include Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; Dr. Abubakar Labaran, Commissioner for Health; and Engr. Marwan Ahmad, Commissioner for Works and Housing. Other retained officials include the Commissioners for Agriculture, Solid Minerals, Religious Affairs, and Youth and Sports, among others.
A significant aspect of the reshuffle involved reassigning officials to new portfolios to optimize their contributions. The Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, was reassigned to the Ministry of Higher Education, moving from the Ministry of Local Government. Similarly, Hon. Muhammad Tajo Usman shifted from the Ministry of Science and Technology to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. These strategic changes aim to address specific governance priorities.
Additional reassignments included Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, who moved from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation, and Hon. Amina Abdullahi, who transitioned from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry for Women, Children, and Disabled Affairs. Other shifts included Hon. Ibrahim Namadi’s move to the Ministry of Transport and Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa’s reassignment to Water Resources.
The reshuffle also saw the removal of five commissioners. Those affected include Ibrahim Jibril Fagge, formerly of the Ministry of Finance; Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, of Culture and Tourism; and Baba Halilu Dantiye, of Information and Internal Affairs. These officials have been directed to report to the Governor’s office for potential reassignment.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the reshuffle was driven by the need to improve service delivery and reposition the administration to meet the needs of Kano’s citizens. He assured the public that the changes were made in the state’s best interest and reflected his commitment to effective governance.
The governor’s decision signals a decisive step toward addressing political and administrative challenges in the state. By maintaining, reassigning, and removing key officials, Governor Yusuf aims to create a more effective and responsive government for Kano State.
