Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Departs For Freetown, Sierra Leone For ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit

The Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, has departed for Freetown, Sierra Leone, to attend the 2026 Mid-Year Coordination Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The Summit will bring together Heads of State and Government, Ministers, senior government officials and representatives of regional institutions to review the implementation of ECOWAS programmes and initiatives aimed at advancing regional integration, economic cooperation, peace, security and sustainable development across West Africa.

During the Summit, the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs will lead the Nigerian delegation to attend the 56th Session of the Mediation and Security Council at the Ministerial Level on Wednesday, 15th July, 2026, and the 96th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers on the 16th and 17th July 2026.

The Honourable Minister will participate in high-level engagements and consultations focused on strengthening regional cooperation, enhancing collective responses to emerging political, security and economic challenges, and accelerating the implementation of ECOWAS integration programmes. Nigeria remains firmly committed to the ideals and objectives of ECOWAS and would continue to play a leading role in promoting peace, democracy, good governance, economic integration and sustainable development within the sub-region.

The Mid-Year Summit provides an important platform for Member States to assess progress on key regional priorities, reinforce collaboration among ECOWAS institutions and chart a common path towards a more peaceful, secure and prosperous West Africa.
