The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has organised a two-day Capacity Building Workshop for Case Management Workers in the Ministry.
The event which was held at Mararaba, Nasarawa State, aims at enhancing the skills of Case Work Management, apply social work principles and ethical conducts on Counseling strategies in Nigeria and to share experience and equip the Officers with improved skills on social work practice.
While declaring the event open, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Abel O. Enitan represented by Mr Peter Audu, Deputy Director overseeing the Office of the Director Social Development noted that Professional Social Case Management Officers are expected to meet the needs of people who are in difficulties of social needs.
He stated that with the emerging social challenges ranging from family instability, drug addiction, financial distress, migration, unemployment, and social disorganisation, people are desperately in need of help and called on the Social Workers to meet the needs of the people.
“As you may be aware, modern social work practice has become increasingly complex in dealing with emerging social challenges in the country and social work being a dynamic profession requires constant professional training that will enable practitioners to meet up with emerging International best practices”.
He emphasised the need for training and retraining of Professional Case Management Workers who deal with the society’s most vulnerable group.
He maintained that such capacity building would go along way to enhance productivity, noting that most people who render social work services are from different backgrounds and discipline such as Humanity and Social Sciences.
Mr Audu stated that the event was in line with Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which gives attention to issues of capacity building.
“You will all agree with me that, building capacity of Officers will greatly enhance their performance in service delivery as the skills and knowledge gained would not only help to build on their professional development but also allow them to have a healthy sense of self-worth and greater drive towards achieving their professional goals”.
In her welcome address, Mrs. Ibrahim Mishelia, Assistant Director, Family and Case Work, thanked the participants for their readiness to be trained.
She said for Case Management Officers to carry out their functions effectively they need to be adequately equipped.
Mrs. Ibrahim employed all the Case Management Officers to take advantage of such trainings which would help them to meet up with global standards.
In his vote of thanks, Mr. Joseph Dzungwe, Chief Social Welfare Officer thanked the Ministry for organizing the training for Case Management workers in the Ministry.
