I will focus on digitization, says Information Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed commitment toward the full digitization of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), just as he committed to the implementation of the Digital Switch Over being handled by the National Broadcasting Commission. The Minister was speaking during a familiarization visit to parastatals under his ministry on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
“We all know the role that the NTA has played in shaping the information and entertainment landscape of our nation for decades, breaking news of national importance, showcasing our rich cultural heritage, showing diversity, and providing platforms for the finest talents that are in and out of this country.” He noted that the role of media organizations like the NTA cannot be overemphasized and commended their commitment to delivering accurate, reliable, and balanced news, which over the years has helped in nurturing, informing, and engaging the citizenry.
The Minister stated that the issue of value reorientation is at the core of the Ministry’s mandate; as such, the diverse reach and timely influence of the NTA will be utilized to brand and promote the civic and moral reawakening required to put our country firmly on the path of sustainable growth and development.

“I am pleased with your advancement in terms of digitization and modernization, and one of my ambitions is to ensure the modernization of the public information platforms under my oversight, of which NTA is the most prominent. I want to assure you that what is going to be my focus is this process of digitization, which has to be taken to a logical conclusion,” he further explained.
Idris disclosed that, as part of his legacy, he wants to see an NTA that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s most respected broadcasting organizations. An entity that is globally known, respected, and fully fit for the pace and style of the 21st century
He assured the NTA that he would do everything possible to mobilize the resources that are required for its smooth operation.
On the part of the NBC, the Minister committed to working closely with the commission to foster an environment that promotes media freedom, the dissemination of accurate and unbiased information, and technological innovation. He emphasized that the broadcasting sector in Nigeria is not only targeted at meeting international standards but also serving as a catalyst for national development.
