ICPC Inaugurates Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) in Humanitarian Affairs Ministry

In line with the Federal government policy of creating Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTU) in all Ministries Departments and Agencies, and in furtherance of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on anti corruption, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) today 18TH April, 2024, inaugurated the ACTU Unit in the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty alleviation.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Hon. Chairman, (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, represented by the Director, System Study and Review Department, Olusegun Adigun, FSI, said that, “the creation of ACTU in MDAs was initiated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission in collaboration with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and approved by the Federal Executive Council in 2001, to serve as an in house check mechanism in MDAs against corrupt practices and unethical practices.”

The ICPC chairman further said that the hope of ICPC is that with the inauguration of ACTU in the Ministry, the Unit will be empowered to deliver on its mandate which includes periodic sensitization of staff against corruption.

He urged the ACTU Unit to operate under the direct oversight of the Permanent Secretary so as to complement Management’s efforts in promoting transparency and accountability within the Ministry.

He commended the Permanent Secretary for facilitating the establishment of the Unit in the Ministry.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty alleviation, Mr. Abel Enitan, said that the inauguration of ACTU in the Ministry by ICPC will enhance the commitment of the Ministry towards Mr President’s agenda on zero tolerance for corruption and the onus is on all patriotic citizens to join the anti-corruption crusade of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said the Unit is headed by Mr. Yakasai Abdullaziz Rabiu and their duties include preliminary investigation; prevention of corruption through system study and review; education and enlightenment of Public servants against corruption; promoting ethics and ensuring compliance with ethical codes and monitoring of budget implementation.

In his acceptance speech, the ACTU Chairman of the Ministry, Abdulaziz Rabiu, thanked the Permanent Secretary and the Management for the opportunity given to them to serve the country and requested for the provision of condusive working environment to assist them in delivering on their mandate.

The Director, Reforms Coordination & Service Improvement (RC&SI) Mr. Odii N. Barry, thanked the ICPC for inaugurating the Ministry’s ACTU and the Permanent Secretary for all the support given towards the creation of the Unit in the Ministry.
