IDOWU LAUDS THE PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM INITIATIVE BY THE HEAD OF THE CIVIL SERVICE OF THE FEDERATION

The Permanent Secretary, Budget & National Planning, Mrs. Olusola Idowu, has commended the ingenuity of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi Esan for setting up the Performance Management System (PMS) for staff performance appraisal.

Mrs. Idowu gave this commendation at the sign- off ceremony of the Ministry’s Job Objective Setting of the performance Management System (PMS) documents, recently in Abuja.

She recalled that Dr. Esan included the Ministry as one of the six pilot Ministries, Departments and Agencies to implement the job objective setting of the PMS for staff performance.

She said the PMS was expected to replace the Annual Performance Evaluation Report (APER) form which had failed to achieve its desired objectives.

The Permanent Secretary added that the development of the document was carefully carried out in line with the best International Practices to guide the assessment and evaluation of staff due for promotion.

She further stated that the PMS was one of the Federal Civil Service Strategic Implementation Plan 2021-2025 designed to ensure that staff performance was objectively and scientifically measured.

She therefore pledged the commitment of the Ministry to ensure that all necessary steps were taken to guarantee full implementation of the PMS.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office, of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Adebiyi, applauded the Ministry for accepting to own the document and carrying out the job efficiently.

He expressed his satisfaction with the documents and pledged to take ownership of each document so as to ensure their judicious implementation

Mr. Adebiyi also stated that the Head of Civil Service of the Federation was delighted about the PMS innovation and had shown interest in vigorously pursuing it.

While giving a welcome address, the Director of Administration, Budget & National Planning, Mr. Omotayo Adeyemi, underlined that the ceremony was aimed at signing the Performance Management System document for an efficient performance, management and appraisal of staff. He said the PMS was very crucial being one of the pillars of the Federal Civil Service.
