The Minister of Interior, Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has outlined key performance indicators (KPIs) for the newly appointed Comptroller General of Immigration Service (CGIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap, with a specific focus on border security.
Following the decoration of CG Nandap on Friday, the Minister noted the key role of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in the country’s security architecture and urged the new NIS boss to demonstrate creativity and innovation in fulfilling her responsibilities.
Emphasising the need for principled leadership, Tunji-Ojo also tasked the new CG to be inclusive and considerate of Nigeria’s diversity in decision-making, and to evaluate her decisions based on fairness, justice, and integrity.
“Every appointment by the President is a risk, and the President has taken a risk on you. I urge you not to let him down but to meet and exceed his expectations and the expectations of millions of Nigerians.
“I will not judge you on how well you perform in passport issuance but I will judge you on how well you protect the Nigerian borders,” the Minister said.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo reiterated his unwavering support for CG Nandap and urged all staff of the Service to rally behind her, ensuring she receives the necessary backing to achieve her goals and targets effectively.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, congratulated CG Nandap and urged her to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President to ensure seamless service delivery.
“We in the Ministry of Interior work as a family and we must strive to sustain that. I urge you to align yourself with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President to achieve seamless service delivery in your assignment,” Dr. Ndayako said.
The Permanent Secretary commended CG Nandap’s past achievements in the Immigration Service, attributing her appointment to merit and hard work.
Delivering the vote of thanks at the end of the ceremony, CG Nandap expressed her commitment to serving the nation with dedication and integrity.
The new Comptroller General further affirmed her resolve to strengthen policies aimed at preventing irregular migration and safeguarding the lives of citizens.
She also highlighted the importance of fostering positive bilateral relations and tightening border security to enhance national security.
“As I step into this role, I want to reassure my fellow Nigerians of my unwavering dedication and commitment to serving our nation with the highest levels of integrity and diligence.
“In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, our focus will be on fostering unity, driving growth, and advancing development. The welfare of our immigration officers will be a top priority as we work towards enhancing their well-being.
“We are steadfast in our resolve to strengthen policies to prevent irregular migration and to safeguard the lives of our citizens and foster positive bilateral relations.
“We will tighten our border and security will be a key objective to reduce the porosity of our borders and enhance the overall national security of our nation because a safe border is a safe nation,” CG Nandap stated.
The ceremony was attended by Directors in the Ministry of Interior, CGs of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional Fire and Immigration Board (CDCFIB) and family of the celebrant, among others.
