ABUJA (MoI’s Report) – Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrhaman Dambazau (rtd) has called for greater collaboration between Nigeria and Italy, in tackling terrorism, as well as human and drug trafficking, for mutual benefit of both countries.
The Minister stated this when he received Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni Silveri and his team in his office.
Gen. Dambazau emphasized the need for synergy between the two countries in the fight against terrorism and all forms of trans-national criminal activities that constitute security threats, adding that Nigeria would welcome capacity-building of Nigerian security personnel by the Italian Government.
He also solicited the expertise of the Italian Government in the areas of border policing and management, noting that he would leverage on his planned visit to Italy in October to concretize on the agreed areas of collaboration.
He commended the Italian Government for building the capacity of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
Earlier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni Silveri stated that their visit was to seek further cooperation between the two countries on security, and to further cement existing bilateral agreement signed by both countries.
He called for the creation of a data base, to enable the two countries share information for more effective trans-border security management.
