FIC REPORT (KADUNA STATE) – The Kaduna State Government Senator Uba Sani has reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to quality and specialised healthcare with the handover of Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital, Kafanchan, to the Federal Government for its upgrade to a Federal Medical Centre.
Governor described the development as a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare reform agenda, noting that the transition would bring tertiary healthcare services closer to residents, particularly those in Kaduna South Senatorial District and neighbouring communities.
He welcomed the commendation by the Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, who acknowledged Kaduna State’s prompt approval and facilitation of the hospital’s transfer to the Federal Government.
According to Governor Uba the Minister’s recognition of Kaduna State as a leading example of healthcare reform and its alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda further reinforces the importance of cooperation between the federal and state governments in delivering meaningful development to Nigerians.
He said the partnership would strengthen the healthcare system, improve access to specialised medical services, and reduce the burden on patients and families who often travel long distances in search of advanced medical treatment.
Sani also expressed satisfaction with the Minister’s commitment to addressing the state’s request for the protection and appropriate integration of the hospital’s existing workforce into the federal system.
He emphasised that the welfare of the hospital’s personnel must remain a priority throughout the transition, stressing that their experience, dedication, and institutional knowledge would be essential to maintaining continuity of care and ensuring the successful operation of the upgraded facility.
He noted that the handover responds to a longstanding aspiration of the people of Kaduna South Senatorial District for improved access to tertiary healthcare services.
Uba added that the goodwill expressed by community representatives and other stakeholders reflected the importance of the development and the high expectations of residents for improved healthcare delivery.
While expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for their partnership, Governor Uba Sani called for sustained investment in healthcare infrastructure, modern diagnostic and treatment equipment, and skilled medical personnel to enable the hospital to fulfil its expanded mandate.
He stated that the transformation of the hospital into a Federal Medical Centre would give renewed significance to the legacy of the late Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, whose memory would be honoured through improved healthcare services and the preservation of human life.
According to the Governor, the true measure of the initiative’s success will be the number of lives saved, the suffering relieved, and the number of families spared the financial and logistical challenges of travelling long distances to access specialist medical care.
Sani reiterated his administration’s determination to build a healthcare system that protects human dignity and provides every resident, irrespective of geographical location or financial circumstances, with a fair opportunity to access compassionate, professional, and quality medical attention.
He assured the people of Kaduna State that his administration would continue to pursue strategic partnerships and reforms aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving the overall well-being of citizens.
