The Permanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of Environment, Mahmud Adam Kambari, earlier today, declared the Technical Session of the 17th meeting on the National Council on Environment open at the NAF Centre, Abuja.

Kambari welcome the participants to the Technical Session of the National Council on Environment (NCE), emphasizing that ‘Technical Session is crucial, it provides a platform for relevant Key players and experts to engage in preliminary deliberations on the diverse memoranda submitted to the Council for consideration.

“it is imperative to reflect on the pivotal role of environmental stewardship in shaping Nigeria’s future as encapsulated in the theme of this year’s meeting, ‘Environment Financing’, reassuring that it is apt and resonates deeply with the priorities of this Administration, highlighting its commitment to harnessing energy and natural resources for sustainable development, as outlined in the Presidential Priorities in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Kambari said, one of the foremost challenges confronting our environmental sector is the issue of funding, lamenting that despite the undeniable significance of environmental preservation to human well-being, successive administrations have struggled to allocate resources commensurate with the scale and urgency of environmental challenges.

He implored the stakeholders/participants to shine a spotlight on the critical issue of financing, with the aim of devising robust funding models and exploring diverse avenues for resource generation to address the sectoral needs effectively.

Kambari said, It is expected that the outcome of the discussions would serve as a blueprint for actionable policies and programs by the Council, aligning with global best practices and contributing to the realization of our national development objectives.

He finally urged the participants to actively engage, drawing upon their wealth of experiences, insights and technical expertise to enrich the discussions.

“Let us harness the collective wisdom and intellectual capital assembled here today to chart a sustainable path forward for Nigeria’s environmental agenda.

Together, let us embark on this journey of collaboration and innovation, committed to safeguarding our environment for generations to come,” he said.
