Kidnapped Students Of J.S. Tarka University Freed Following Police Action

FIC Report (Benue State) – The female students of Joseph Saawuan Tarka University, Makurdi, who were abducted by unknown persons, have regained their freedom. This was confirmed in a press release issued on Thursday, 6th March 2025, by the Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine S. Anene.

It will be recalled that on 26th February 2025, at about 21:34 hours, the police received information from J.S. Tarka University, Makurdi, regarding the abduction of students within the school premises. Acting swiftly, a team of police officers was deployed to commence investigations.

Findings revealed that three (3) female students had been taken hostage by their kidnappers.

Following sustained efforts and a continuous trail of the abductors, the victims were released on 5th March 2025, at about 21:34 hours. They are currently receiving medical attention at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

While investigations remain ongoing, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Steve H. Yabanet, FCID, psc (+), has commended all officers involved in the operation, particularly the IGP Intelligence Response Team from Abuja and other security agencies in Benue State for their commitment to the case. He has also reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are apprehended and brought to justice.
