Minister of Labour and Employment Simon Bako Lalong has inaugurated a five-man fact-finding committee to investigate various complaints and petitions against the management of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
While inaugurating the committee, the Minister said the Government recognised the important role played by the NSITF in the social security of workers and would therefore address all the challenges that militate against the optimal performance of the organisation.
Lalong said the terms of reference for the committee include the investigation of alleged irregularities in the award of contracts worth about 1.8 billion naira; self-payment of gratuities to the leadership of the Fund while still in office; non release of promotions, and irregular employments.
He urged the members of the committee to carry out the assignment dispassionately and fairly, as well as withstand any attempt to intimidate, harass or influence them.
While responding, Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Isaac Okehie, who is also Director, Finance and Account of the Ministry, promised that they would do their best to deliver on the assignment.
The committee, which membership is composed of directors from the Ministry, was given two weeks to submit its report.
