Minister of Interior Receives LGAN, Commends Role in National Development

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, today received the leadership of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) on a courtesy visit to the Ministry in Abuja, where he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening partnerships that promote national unity, inclusion, and social development through sports.

Welcoming the delegation, the Minister highlighted the Ministry’s core mandate of safeguarding internal security, citizenship integrity, and institutional efficiency, noting that collaboration with credible organisations such as LGAN contributes to broader governance objectives.

He commended the association for its longstanding contribution to the promotion of golf among women in Nigeria and its role in fostering discipline, leadership, and international representation.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo further emphasized ongoing reforms within agencies under the Ministry, including improvements in passport administration and the deployment of modern e-gate systems at international airports, which are aimed at enhancing service delivery and restoring public confidence.

Earlier, the President of LGAN, Lami Onayi Ahmed, expressed appreciation to the Minister for granting the audience despite his demanding schedule. She outlined the association’s history and mandate as the umbrella body for women golfers in Nigeria, dedicated to expanding participation and providing platforms for capacity building and international engagement.

The delegation commended the Minister’s transformative leadership and reforms, particularly in modernising processes within the Ministry, which they noted align with global standards and national aspirations.

The Minister assured the delegation of the Ministry’s support in promoting initiatives that empower women and encourage sports development across the country. He urged members of the association to continue serving as ambassadors of Nigeria, leveraging sports as a tool for unity, national pride, and socio-economic advancement.

The visit concluded with a renewed commitment to sustained collaboration between the Ministry and LGAN in advancing shared national goals.
