The Director General, National Agency for GREAT Green Wall (NAGGW), Saleh Abubakar MFR, has pledged to collaborate in the areas of Livelihood Programmes with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs Poverty Alleviation, which he said is in line with the mandate of the Agency and that will make the Agency’s work easier.
Abubakar stated this when the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs Poverty Alleviation paid him a courtesy call in his office in Abuja on Thursday 26th September,2024.
He said Great Green Wall program (GGWP) is not only an environmental intervention, it is also a social and economic lifeline for millions of people who depend on the land for their sustenance.
In her speech the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon Delu Bulus Yakubu, stated that her Office is committed to addressing the humanitarian challenges that arise from conflicts, environmental degradation and displacement, which she said many of these issues intersect directly with the challenges faced in the regions impacted by desertification and climate change.
Hon. Yakubu said that her office and the agency share a common mandate, to uplift the livelihood of vulnerable populations, strengthen community resilience and address the root causes of poverty and displacement which NAGGW operational area falls within the most affected regions in terms of food insecurity, lack of access to basic services and environmental degradation.
She disclosed that the collaboration with the Agency is not just timely but essential, by pooling the resources and expertise between the two Offices would significantly enhance the implementation of livelihood Programmes that focus on building resilience, restoring dignity and providing sustainable means of income for families and communities.
The SSA earmarked the areas of collaboration in Sustainable Agriculture and Agroforestry, Capacity Building and Vocational Training, Microfinance and Entrepreneurial Support as well as Youth and Women Empowerment.
In attendance were the Management staff of the Agency and staff of the SSA Office.
