Nasarawa govt empowers 1400 vulnerable households

FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Some of the items distributed Nasarawa State Government has commenced distribution of working tools to over 1400 poor and vulnerable households under the World Bank-assisted Nigeria COVID 19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, NG – CARES Programme.

At the launch of the programme in Lafia the Nasarawa state capital, Governor Abdullahi Sule said the state government has set up an Inclusive Economic Recovery Programme to end poverty and hunger in the state.

The Governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Yakubu Lawal stated that the state government had set up a sustainable template aimed at addressing challenges and losses in labour income among the poor and vulnerable households as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic.

He called on the beneficiaries to exhibit strong commitment to utilizing the offer to enhance speedy economic revival in their households.

Nasarawa State Coordinator, NG – CARES, Mr. Umar Dahiru Ibrahim explained that the beneficiaries were captured from rural communities under Labour Intensive Public Component of the programme.

He noted that the selected youths and women whose educational qualifications did not go beyond primary school would be engaged in cleaning public facilities especially schools, health centres, garbage and refuse collection as well as waste disposal in their various communities.

Mr. Dahiru Ibrahim also added that each of the beneficiaries would be paid 10000 Naira monthly throughout the two-year period of the programme.
