FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – The Nasarawa State Government has recorded a major milestone in its campaign against malaria after securing 1.8 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets valued at over ₦5 billion through a strategic partnership with the United States Global Health Supply Chain.
The massive intervention is expected to protect millions of residents from one of Nigeria’s deadliest diseases, with about 20 percent of the mosquito nets already delivered ahead of the statewide distribution exercise.
Speaking on while receiving a delegation from the United States Global Health Supply Chain led by the Director of the Malaria Program, Oladayo Adekunle, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, said the initiative underscores the unwavering commitment of the Nasarawa State Government to safeguarding the health and well-being of its citizens.
According to the Commissioner, the administration of Governor Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule is determined to ensure that every mosquito net reaches the intended beneficiaries through a transparent and accountable distribution process, with special attention given to households in rural and underserved communities.
Dr. Gwamna disclosed that Governor Sule has been fully briefed on the progress of the Programme and has assured development partners of the state’s total support to guarantee the successful implementation of the campaign across the 13 local government areas.
He further reaffirmed the government’s readiness to continue meeting its counterpart funding obligations while strengthening partnerships aimed at reducing malaria prevalence and improving healthcare delivery in the state.
Commending the state’s commitment, the Director of the Malaria Program, Oladayo Adekunle, described Nasarawa as “a very reliable partner,” noting that the collaboration has continued to produce positive results in malaria prevention. He added that the programme also supports nine other states across the country.
Both the state government and its development partners emphasized that the fight against malaria goes beyond mosquito net distribution. They called for improved environmental sanitation, proper waste disposal, and stronger participation by local government councils to sustain the gains of the intervention.
The latest health intervention reinforces Governor Abdullahi Sule’s commitment to preventive healthcare, strategic partnerships, and sustained investments aimed at reducing malaria-related illnesses and improving the quality of life for the people of Nasarawa State.
