The Director General of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Surv. Adamu Adaji has assured the government of Delta State that the Commission will expediate action in the definition and demarcation of its boundaries with its neighbouring states in order to curb any further boundary disputes between the State and her neighbours.
Adaji gave this assurance when he received the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Delta State Boundary Committee Sir Monday Onyeme who led a delegation of the State Committee on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
The Director General commended the visiting Deputy Governor for taking the initiative to visit the Commission to request for its urgent intervention in order to curtail likely provocation between the State and its neighbouring States adding that Delta State is one of the few states that have a well established State Boundary Committee which has contributed immensely to a very cordial working relationship between the State and the Commission.
The Director General however expressed his dissatisfaction over the boundary dispute between Delta and Ondo state which has continued to linger despite the efforts of the Commission to restore lasting peace between the two States using both Technical and Political approach.
On the issue of Delta State, the DG stated that it is usually not uncommon to see two sister states who used to share common State disputing over boundary lines after the creation of a new state.
He commended the Delta State government for its commitment and proactive actions to tackle long standing challenges to ensure territorial integrity and peaceful coexistence between her and her neighbours.
He noted that these efforts are a clear indication of the government’s determination to prioritizing the state’s interests and avoiding disruptions to its developmental Agenda.
In his remarks the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme stated that the visit was predicted on the need for the State Government to be able to deliver to Deltans M.O.R.E in terms of socio-economic development in line with its M.O.R.E Agenda.
According to him the State Governor Hon Sheriff Oborevwori had made the point clearly in his inaugural address that his goal was not only to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor but also to advance the State to greater heights in inclusive economic growth, human capital development, infrastructure renewal, and peace and security.
M.O.R.E is an acronym for Meaningful development through the provision of Opportunities for all through Realistic reforms and Enhanced peace and security for all.The key words are development, opportunities, reforms and peace and security.
