As Nigeria marks its 64th independence anniversary, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, led by Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni, has issued a statement highlighting the crucial role of civil servants in the country’s development. The statement acknowledges the dedication and hard work of civil servants, describing them as the “unsung heroes” behind government operations.

Under Mrs. Walson-Jack’s leadership, the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 outlines a vision for modernizing operations, enhancing skills, and building a more efficient, accountable, and responsive civil service . This roadmap requires unwavering commitment and patriotism from civil servants.

The Head of Service emphasized that true patriotism means performing duties with excellence, understanding that daily efforts are the driving force behind Nigeria’s advancement. It is the diligence and hard work of civil servants that bring about real progress, inspiring trust in government and creating a system that meets the needs of the people.

As the country celebrates its journey, it stands on the threshold of significant reforms to modernize operations and enhance skills ². The best gift civil servants can offer fellow Nigerians on this Independence Day anniversary is to continue the march to greatness, culminating in a civil service respected at home and admired globally.

Mrs. Walson-Jack’s vision is to transform and reposition the civil service into a “Modern Public Service Organisation that Provides World-Class service for sustainable National Development”. The Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) has been re-positioned and strengthened to drive the implementation of the strategic plan.

The Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan is hinged on eight priority areas, with emphasis on capacity building, skills improvement, and culture change to build a Public Service that is Efficient, Productive, Incorruptible, and Citizen-Centred (EPIC).

To achieve this vision, the Office of the Head of Service is committed to providing timely, valuable, and professional services for efficient and effective operations. The Career Management Office (CMO) plays a crucial role in managing the careers of officers in the pool of the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

As Nigeria moves forward, the dedication and hard work of civil servants will remain essential to the country’s progress and development .
