The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, received in audience the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, His Excellency Yu Dunhai.

Discussions focused on advancing Nigeria–China strategic cooperation. Both sides reviewed ongoing bilateral relations and exchanged views on global and regional developments. Ambassador Yu commended Nigeria’s leadership role in West Africa and aligned with the Minister’s concerns regarding the mischaracterisation of regional crises. He reaffirmed China’s support for Nigeria’s security, stability, and sovereignty.

The meeting further explored expanded areas of partnership, including industrialisation, exploration and processing of rare earth and critical minerals, technology transfer, migration, and capacity-building initiatives. Both parties examined China’s proposed “process solutions,” potential investment opportunities, and avenues for collaboration in the energy, manufacturing, and economic transformation sectors.

The Minister and the Chinese Ambassador agreed that the bilateral agreements currently under review are critical to unlocking these opportunities and reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening Nigeria–China cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.
