The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extends his warmest congratulations to His Excellency, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, as the country commemorates its Independence Anniversary.

Mauritania’s Independence Anniversary stands as a profound reminder of the courage, unity, and enduring resilience of the Mauritanian people in their historic pursuit of sovereignty, peace, and national development. As Nigeria joins in celebrating this milestone, we reaffirm the shared values of dignity, self-determination, and African solidarity that continue to guide relations between both nations.

Nigeria and Mauritania enjoy warm, long-standing relations strengthened through cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture, maritime affairs, education, and security. The two countries also collaborate closely within the African Union (AU), the G5 Sahel, the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the United Nations, advancing regional stability, counter-terrorism efforts, sustainable development, and south-south cooperation.

As Mauritania marks this significant occasion, Nigeria reiterates its commitment to deepening bilateral engagement, expanding economic and strategic partnerships, and promoting people-to-people exchanges that contribute to mutual growth and prosperity. Nigeria remains ready to work alongside Mauritania in addressing shared regional and global challenges, while supporting collective aspirations for peace, stability, and inclusive progress across the African continent.

Nigeria once again conveys her sincere felicitations to the Government and people of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, with heartfelt wishes for continued unity, economic advancement, and national prosperity.
