The Federal Ministry of Education commemorated the 2025 International Day of Education by embracing the theme “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation.” Speaking earlier, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, represented by the Director of Polytechnics, Dr. Ejeh Usman, highlighted the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in education.
Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to integrating AI and digital technologies to improve Nigeria’s education sector. He noted several achievements, including the establishment of integrated platforms that provide comprehensive data on tertiary institutions and admissions nationwide.
The introduction of innovative e-learning solutions, such as Inspire for Students and Ignite for Teachers, has enhanced access to quality education. These platforms create virtual classrooms and simplify lesson planning for educators. Additionally, the Nigeria Learning Passport offers over 15,000 educational resources, making it a valuable tool for students.
The Tertiary Information System has revolutionized undergraduate data management, while automated accreditation services have streamlined evaluation and certification processes. Dr. Alausa emphasized the Ministry’s resolve to position Nigeria as a leader in digitalized education.
The Minister also underscored the role of AI in shaping the future of education. He stressed the importance of tools like virtual reality, gamification, and AI-driven grading systems, which transform the learning experience for students and teachers.
Dr. Alausa outlined a strategic roadmap to ensure responsible AI integration in education. This includes incorporating AI literacy into school curricula, equipping educators with necessary skills, and fostering partnerships with global stakeholders.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Uche Onwuama, Deputy Director of the Education Sport Service Department, who expressed gratitude to all participants for their dedication to advancing Nigeria’s education system.
Earlier, Ms. Ochei Chinenye Hope, Principal Education Officer, delivered a compelling presentation titled ‘Showcasing ICT in Achieving AI Integration in Education.’ The presentation showcased Nigeria’s progress in adopting AI and digital technologies in education, providing practical strategies for embedding these tools into teaching and learning processes.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirms its commitment to harnessing the potential of AI to enhance education in Nigeria. Through its commitment to innovation and responsible AI integration, the Ministry aims to create a more accessible, efficient, and innovative learning environment for all Nigerians.
