The Nigeria Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) is designed to strengthen commitment of policy makers, development practitioner and captains of industry in the implantation of the SDGs.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire stated this at the virtual inception workshop on INFF on Sustainable Development.
She said INFF is a Nigeria initiative to be driven by the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) with technical and financial support from United Nations Development Project (UNDP) European Union (EU) and all stakeholders.
The SSAP-SDGs said, Nigeria is moving forward in the implementation of the SDGs, she calls on all stakeholders to rally support for it success. Adding that, Nigeria will be presenting its second Voluntary National Review to the High level Political Forum (HLPF) on July, 10th 2020 by virtual at 4pm Local time and invite all stakeholders to participate.
In her keynote address, the Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning Dr. Zainab S. Ahmed, said “At the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, we have been working closely with relevant MDAs to ensure the implementation of key fiscal priorities with focus on improving revenue generation optimizing collections and targeted reform measures to ensure the necessary fiscal space for implementation of Government`s policies and the achievement of the SDGs”.
Adding that, specific cross-sectorial programmes and projects aimed at achieving the SDGs have been incorporated into the National Budgets and will be included in future budgeting frameworks.
The Minister said, Nigeria, like all other United Nations (UN) member countries is at a critical crossroads when it comes to addressing the financial gap for implementing the SDGs and ensuring resilient inclusive and sustainable growth. She reiterated that, “the Development of INFF is crucial, particularly in the context of the response to Covid-19 pandemic as it will support us in moving towards the Nigeria we want and the Nigeria that our citizen deserves”.
Representatives from various stakeholders were at the virtual meeting amongst which are: Honourable Minister of State, Budget and National Planning Mr. Clement Abba, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria Mr. Edward Kallon, they all pledged to support the course of the implementation of SDGs in Nigeria.
