The Federal Government through the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development has reiterated its commitment to create a conducive business environment for investment opportunities to thrive in the mining industry, citing the forthcoming Nigeria Mining Week as a classic example.

The Permanent Secretary Dr. Mary Ogbe disclosed this during the Pre-event Press Briefing organized to announce the 8th Edition of the Nigeria Mining Week, scheduled to take place from 16th-18th October, 2023. The briefing held at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja.

In her address, Dr. Ogbe stated that the Nigeria Mining Week, is a unique platform that brings together government officials, mining companies, investors, technology providers and various stakeholders to engage in insightful discussions aimed at unlocking the full potentials of Nigeria’s mining industry. Nigeria, she noted, is endowed with abundant mineral resources: stressing, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is determined to harness it towards achieving economic transformation of the country.

To this end, the Permanent Secretary affirmed that this year’s 8th Edition of the Nigeria Mining Week promises to be a significant platform for investors to explore potential investment opportunities within Nigeria’s mining ecosystem. The theme of the 3- day event is “Capitalizing on Nigeria’s Critical Mineral Resources for Economic Growth”.

Dr Ogbe stated further that hosting the event is a practical demonstration of federal government’s commitment to ensuring that the nation’s natural resources are harnessed for the growth of the economy, create jobs for our teeming youths as well as infrastructural development of the country.

In his remarks, the President, Miners Association of Nigeria, Dele Ayanleke, while emphasing the importance of the annual event, noted that the Communique emanating from the various editions of the Nigeria Mining Week have contributed majorly to Policy decisions of government. It has pragmatically accelerate the nation’s mineral resources into huge economic growth and development.

Speaking at the occasion, the representative of PricewaterhouseCoopers, (a partner of the event) Chuma Amazigo, stated that the Nigeria Mining Week remains one of the crucial sectors that would significantly contribute to the diversification of the economy and grow the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.

Also, Samuel Madlabane, Event Director (Mining Portfolio), who spoke on behalf of the Vuka Group, ( a key partner of the event) said the Nigeria Mining Week stands as a beacon of progress, an annual event that serves as a compass guiding Nigeria towards harnessing the full potential of its abundant mineral resources and the boundless opportunities within its mining industry.

Earlier, the Director, Investment Promotion and Mineral Trade Dept in the Ministry; Mr. Eme Ekerikpo, expressed delight for the 8th Edition of the Nigeria Mining Week, stressing, it holds immense significance as it would serve as a vital platform for key players within the industry to converge and exchange ideas.

The 8th Edition of the Nigeria Mining Week will hold at the International Conference Center, Abuja between 16 – 18, October 2023.
