At the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women held in Beijing- China, the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Honourable Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, fsi, delivered Nigeria’s National Country Statement, reaffirming the nation’s unwavering commitment to women empowerment, gender equality, and inclusive social transformation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking on the theme “One Shared Future: New and Accelerated Process for Women’s All-Round Development,” the Minister expressed appreciation to the Government of the People’s Republic of China and UN Women for convening the landmark meeting, which comes at a pivotal time marking 80 years of the United Nations, 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 25 years of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, and 30 years of the Global Social Development Agenda.

According to the Minister, “These milestones remind us that the advancement of women is central to peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.” She highlighted that in direct response to the 1995 Beijing Conference, Nigeria established the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, serving as the National Institutional Mechanism for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, which remains the coordinating body for mainstreaming gender and protecting women, children, and vulnerable groups nationwide.

Hon. Sulaimain-Ibrahim outlined key national policies driving Nigeria’s transformative agenda, including the National Gender Policy (2021–2026), the National Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy (2023), the National Policy on Ending Child Marriage, and the Third National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (2025–2030). These, she said, are designed to “expand opportunity, protect rights, strengthen resilience, and increase investment for women and families.”

She further announced the rollout of the Renewed Hope Social Impact Interventions-774 (RH-SII-774) — a nationwide, coordinated delivery platform operating across all 774 Local Government Areas. The initiative integrates nine interlinked pillars focusing on women-centred, child-protected, and family-focused transformation, already reshaping local economies and deepening inclusion.

The Minister also emphasized Nigeria’s renewed commitment to increasing women’s political representation, referencing the Special Reserved Seats Bill currently before the National Assembly. She noted that bridging an estimated USD 1.2 billion financing gap remains vital to sustain ongoing reforms, calling for blended finance, private sector partnerships, and impact investment instruments to scale these interventions.

As the global community reconvenes in Beijing — the birthplace of the modern women’s movement — Hon. Sulaimain-Ibrahim affirmed Nigeria’s belief that “empowering women is not an act of charity, but an investment in productivity, peace, and shared prosperity.”

She assured that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria has moved from commitment to action, from promise to measurable progress, determined to ensure that no woman is unseen, no girl unheard, no child forgotten, and no family left behind..

The Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women 2025 serves as a call to action for governments, development partners, and civil society worldwide to fast-track efforts toward achieving gender parity and sustainable progress for women’s all-round development.
