Nigerian Association Of Women Journalists To Engage In ICT Training

FIC Report (Benue State) – The Head of the Federal Information Centre (FIC), Makurdi, Benue State, Mrs. Irene Onehi, has called on the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Benue State Chapter, to engage in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training to enhance their knowledge and professional efficiency.

Mrs. Onehi made the call on Tuesday March 4, 2025, during a courtesy visit by NAWOJ Benue State Chapter to her office at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Makurdi.

She emphasized the need for journalists to acquire ICT skills, including proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word, to effectively carry out their duties. She further highlighted that the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has an official website where news stories are published. She urged media organizations to collaborate with FIC Makurdi for the effective dissemination of government activities in the state.

Additionally, Mrs. Onehi enlightened the journalists on President Tinubu’s intervention programs, encouraging them to key into these initiatives. Informational flyers were distributed to members present at the event.

In her remarks, the Chairman of NAWOJ Benue State Chapter, Elizabeth Achagh, congratulated Mrs. Onehi on her leadership appointment in the state and encouraged her to serve diligently. Achagh assured her of the support of women journalists in Benue State.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Benue State Chapter, Hembadoon Orsar, and veteran journalist Dorothy Abellega, a former national official of NAWOJ, expressed gratitude to God for the recognition of a female journalist in the state for leadership in a federal agency.
