FIC Report (Borno State) – The Borno State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), led by its Chairman, Malam Umar Mohammed Tijjani, has paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, at the Command Headquarters.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Institute and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in the areas of public information, strategic communication, public enlightenment, crisis communication and image management.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of NIPR Borno State Chapter, Malam Umar Mohammed Tijjani, congratulated CP Naziru Abdulmajid on his appointment as the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command. He commended the Commissioner for his leadership and the efforts of the Command towards maintaining peace, security and stability across the state.
Malam Tijjani explained that the Borno State Chapter of NIPR had been dormant for more than two decades before efforts were made to identify and mobilise professional members in the state and reactivate the chapter. He disclosed that the chapter now has more than 40 registered members, with a significant number of them also belonging to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
According to him, the reactivation of the chapter is part of the Institute’s commitment to strengthening professional public relations practice in Borno State and creating platforms for effective engagement with government institutions, security agencies, the media, private organisations and other stakeholders.
He stated that NIPR’s core responsibility is to educate, inform and build mutually beneficial relationships between organisations and the public, while promoting transparency, credibility and responsible communication.
The Chairman assured the Commissioner that the NIPR Borno State Chapter was ready to collaborate with the Police Command in ensuring that relevant information and official activities of the Command receive appropriate publicity through professional communication channels.
He further said that official press releases and other public information from the Borno State Police Command could be shared through the NIPR network, including the Institute’s national structure, where appropriate, to ensure wider dissemination and greater public understanding.
Malam Tijjani also commended the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr. Kenneth Nahum Daso, for his efforts in communicating the activities and achievements of the Police Command to the public.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, warmly welcomed the NIPR delegation and expressed his appreciation for the visit.
The Commissioner said he was delighted to receive the leadership and members of NIPR Borno State Chapter, describing the Institute as an important partner in the areas of public communication, image management and public enlightenment.
CP Abdulmajid described NIPR as a “partner in progress,” stressing that effective collaboration between security agencies and professional communication practitioners is essential to ensuring that accurate information reaches the public.
He noted that the Police Command requires credible communication channels to effectively explain its activities, achievements and security initiatives to the people.
He added that collaboration with professional bodies such as NIPR would help strengthen the dissemination of official information and counter misinformation and negative narratives.
The Commissioner further commended the NIPR Borno State Chapter for its efforts in reviving the Institute’s activities in the state, assuring the delegation of the Command’s readiness to work closely with the chapter whenever the need arises.
CP Abdulmajid also emphasised the importance of effective communication in security management, noting that security is a collective responsibility.
He therefore called on members of NIPR and other stakeholders to share relevant observations and information that could assist the security agencies in identifying emerging challenges and protecting the lives and property of residents.
He stressed that members of the public, professional bodies and the media all have important roles to play in supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
The Commissioner assured the NIPR delegation that the Police Command would continue to maintain an open channel of communication with the Institute and other relevant stakeholders in the interest of peace, security and development in
Borno State.
