The Executive Director, Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC), Dr Abdulmumini Aminu Zaria has said that the Commission will partner with Nigeria Institute of Water Engineers (NIWE) to achieve sustainable growth and development in the Nigeria water sector.

The Executive Director disclosed this when the National Chairman, the Nigeria Institute of Water Engineers and her team paid a courtesy visit to the Commission’s head office in Abuja.

Dr Aminu Zaria said bringing all water engineers under one umbrella is a good thing because water is life, preservation of water is key and important aspect of human life. He who ignores the existence of water ignores the existence of human kind.

Speaking further, Dr. Aminu Zaria noted that “here, we are doing catchment management plan to educate and bring about all water users together to properly harness and manage our water both surface and underground, and to also regulate our bulk water users.

“We need other bodies to come with us as stakeholders within the local level of the catchment management plan and we consider you stakeholders because you cut across every sector, community and every state”, he added.

Earlier, the National Chairman of the Nigeria Institute of Water Engineers, Engr. Temitope Aboyeji said “NIWE is one of the divisions of Nigeria Society of Water Engineers and our core objective is to bring together Engineers and other water professionals in the water sector to harness our resources as professionals in the water sector for economic cooperation and advancement in the engineering discipline in Nigeria.

“We identify this organization as a major stakeholder in the Nigeria water sector and we want to work with you alongside other stakeholders for policy formation and rendering of services towards achieving sustainable growth and development in the Nigeria water sector”, she added.
