FIC Report (Imo State) – The Nigerian Security And Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) , Imo command has arrested one fifty-two (52) years old Mr Tochukwu Ogaranya who operates an orphanage and rescued five (5) pregnant women for alleged involvement in child trafficking in Imo state.
The NSCDC Imo state Commandant, Mr. Basil Igwebueze, disclosed this in Owerri, the state capital while briefing newsmen on the recent exploits of the command.
According to him, the suspects alongside an accomplice, Mr. Godwin Nnamdi were apprehended in the orphanage within the World Bank axis of the state capital where they carried out illegal and criminal activities.
Mr. Igwebueze went further to explain that the arrest was prompted by a recent development where an officer sighted a pregnant teenager trying to escape from the orphanage. This led the operatives to storm the location leading to the subsequent rescue of the pregnant women and new-born children.
He reiterated that child trafficking is a very serious crime punishable under the law and warned the general public to desist from it, adding that security agencies should be alerted as soon as they notice suspicious movements and activities.
He then stated that the suspects will be arraigned in court after investigations have been concluded.
The orphanage operator, Mr Tochukwu Ogaranya, while reacting to the allegations levelled against him denied all , insisting that the home was duly registered and not involved in child trafficking.
