NUJ Tasks INEC, NOA To Embark On Grassroot Mobilization Of The People In The 2023 Elections

FIC Report (Abia State) – As Political Campaigns are due to commence ahead of the 2023 General Elections, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abia State Chapter has called on INEC and the National Orientation Agency, NOA, to rise to the occasion of sensitizing and mobilizing the people for the polls.

In a Communique issued at the end of the Monthly Congress of the NUJ in Umuahia and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Victor Ndukwe and Secretary, Adaeze Igbokwe, equally tasked INEC to keep a tab on Politicians to ensure that they play by the rules.

The Union harped on the need for all practicing Journalists to be professional in the discharge of their duties especially during the campaigns.

The Abia NUJ Council commended the State Governor,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for restoring the accreditation of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba which was recently de-accredited by the National Board for Technical Education and urged the government to apply the same system and zeal in also restoring the accreditation of Medical Sciences of Abia State University, Uturu lost by the Institution.

The Union equally appealed to the government to do its utmost best in clearing the arrears of pensions owed retired Workers in the State to alleviate their sufferings.

Part of the Communique reads thus: “Congress enjoins Abians to join hands with the Government to keep the environment clean especially the drainages and waterways to avoid the incidence of flooding as NIMET has included Abia as one of the States that are prone to flooding.

“Congress commended the State Police Command for apprehending 10 out of the 14-man robbery gang that attacked a Bullion van conveying cash to Umuahia on July 26, 2022 at Ntigha Junction in Isiala Ngwa North LGA.

Congress noted the commitment, diligence and dedication which the Police Operatives deployed to the assignment of arresting the suspects which yielded huge positive results and urges the Command to sustain such zeal and high level of commitment in fighting crime and criminality in the state”.
