FIC REPORT (KOGI STATE) – The Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has directed the State Bureau of Lands to identify and allocate plots of land to federal civil servants working in the state as part of efforts to improve their welfare and encourage their contributions to the development of the state

The Governor gave the directive on Friday when he received members of the Association of Heads of Federal Establishments in Kogi State at the Government House, Lokoja.

The governor, who commended the federal workforce for its contributions to the development of the state, assured the association of his administration’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at improving the living and working conditions of its members.

He also pledged government assistance towards completing the association’s proposed student hostel project at the Federal University Lokoja area, advising that the facility be dedicated to female students upon completion.

Governor Ododo particularly appreciated the association for complementing the state’s development efforts through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, including the establishment of a primary school and plans to construct a hostel accommodation for university students in the state.

He directed the Commissioner for Education to ensure the continued operation of the primary school, following its demolition to pave the way for the construction of a new international market.

The governor also commended the association for acquiring land for the proposed private hostel, expressing his administration’s willingness to complement its efforts towards completing the project.
On the slow pace of work on the Federal Secretariat in the state, the Governor promised to liase with the appropriate Federal agency in charge of the project for possible acceleration.
The Governor further promised to provide pilgrimage opportunities for members of the association to both Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Jerusalem.

He urged members of the association to make informed choices when selecting leaders, stressing the importance of assessing leadership records and performance.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Association, who is also Kogi State Coordinator of the Federal Character Commission, Mr Gabriel Usman, disclosed that the state hosts 114 federal agencies with a combined workforce of approximately 25,000 personnel.

Usman explained that the association’s social responsibility initiatives were designed to complement the developmental efforts of the Kogi State Government, particularly in education and youth development.

He disclosed that the association had acquired a plot of land for the construction of a private hostel for students of the Federal University Lokoja.

According to him, the proposed facility will comprise two blocks with a capacity to accommodate 68 students.

He appealed to the governor to support the completion of the project, noting that the initiative would help address accommodation challenges confronting the university students.

The association chairman also requested a bus to facilitate the activities of members, additional land allocations for members interested in building residential houses, pilgrimage opportunities and the appointment of a Special Adviser to the governor on Federal Establishments from among its members.
The Chairman also expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work on the Federal Secretariat project in the state.
The association expressed its commitment to sustaining its partnership with the state government in promoting development and improving the welfare of residents.
