IBADAN (FIC Ibadan) – The Honourable Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Adeboo Ogundoyin, has called for increased border surveillance in order to reduce the number of foreigners and migrants entering the country illegally.

Ogundoyin made this known while leading other lawmakers of the State on a courtesy visit to the Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Oyo State Command, Saleh Abdullah, at his Agodi Office.

He said, with the spate of insecurity in the country, most of the high profiled crimes are allegedly linked to foreigners and that the Governor of the State, Seyi Makinde, was keen on securing lives and property of residents of the State.

The Speaker therefore assured that the State government is ready to work with all security agencies in the State, so as to achieve a safer and more secured environment as no investment can thrive in an unsecured environment.

He further emphasized on the need for the NIS to put in more effort in controlling the number of persons entering and leaving the country and also, beam their searchlight on already identified flashpoints.

The Comptroller, Saleh Abdullah, in his remark, said his officers would not relent in ensuring border patrol. He informed them that the NIS had been working with other security agencies to ensure all border entries into the state.

He further informed them that, in order to ease the duty of the NIS in issuing travel documents to bonafide Nigerians and residence permits to foreigners, the service had launched E-registration process.

He warned Nigerians against employing unknown house helps as most of them are trafficked foreigners.
