In a resounding declaration of the indispensable role of Performance Management Systems within the Nation’s Civil Service, the Minister of State for Education, Hon Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, has fervently emphasized their paramount importance. This pivotal proclamation was made during the commencement of the prestigious two-day Sector Retreat on Modern Performance Management Systems. The event, meticulously organized for heads of departments, units, as well as Chief Executives of Parastatals and Agencies, was hosted by the Department of Educational Planning, Research, and Development under the esteemed Ministry of Education.
Representing the Honorable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamann, Dr. Sununu underscored the performance Management Systems Policy as an integral facet of the Federal Ministry of Education’s Ministerial Deliverables, particularly those outlined in Deliverables no. 2 and 22. Emanating as a potent force for the operationalization, implementation, and alignment of Mr. President’s visionary 8-point Agenda across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the Performance Management System stands as a beacon of efficiency and effectiveness, as articulated by the Minister.
Earlier in the event, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has endorsed four comprehensive policies within the Education sector. These policies encompass Data Repository, Out-of-School Children Education, Teacher Training and Development, as well as Skill Development and Acquisition.
The Permanent Secretary underscored that the implementation of the four recently approved Policies is anticipated to foster comprehensive development within Nigeria’s Education system. Additionally, she urged participants to formulate implementation strategies aligned with Ministerial Deliverables and the Roadmap for the Nigerian Education sector.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Participants will have the opportunity to explore innovative approaches to Performance Management, including the use of Technology, Data analytics, and Stakeholder Engagement. The retreat will also highlight the importance of aligning Performance Management systems with organizational goals and objectives.
