President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality in Nigeria, emphasizing the crucial role women play in driving economic growth and national development.

Speaking at the Ministry of Women Affairs Empower-Her: Women Health, Justice/Farming/Education/Support Programme at the State House, Abuja, President Tinubu stressed the importance of addressing challenges faced by women in the country.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, President Tinubu acknowledged the vital role women play in agriculture, contributing over 70% of the labour force. He emphasized the need for investment in agricultural training, access to land, and financial services for women farmers to increase their yield, improve livelihoods, and contribute to Nigeria’s food security.

The President also highlighted health disparities affecting women and girls, focusing on increasing access to quality healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.

As the President of Nigeria, I am committed to advancing the cause of women empowerment and gender equality in our dear nation, President Tinubu said.

He added that Empowering women in agriculture must prioritize investment in agricultural training, access to land and financial services for women farmers.

The President urged government and private sectors to join hands and support the Empower-Her initiative so as to create an enabling environment for women to fulfill their potential and contribute meaningfully to society.

We must empower women, not just for their sake, but for the sake of our entire nation. When we have empowered families, communities are viable, President Tinubu concluded.

In her vote of thanks, the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu’s administration for its unwavering commitment to the gender’s empowerment.

With the funds realized from the donation, we will immediately commence the implementation of the mobile court in FCT – Abuja and Nasarawa State in order to ensure swifter justice for children and women molestation cases.

She emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to creating an enabling environment for the poor and vulnerable, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration This is a new dawn for women in Nigeria. We appreciate philanthropists and institutions supporting the upliftment of women, children, and vulnerable individuals, she added.

The Empower-Her Initiative which is poised towards transforming women’s lives, unlocking their potential and contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth and development witnessed fund donations from Conglomerates and individuals, including Philanthropist Arthur Eze, who graciously donated the sum of N100m.
