FIC Report (Edo State) – In a significant move to bolster rural infrastructure, Senator Neda Imasuen of Edo South officially launched a 2-kilometer road connecting Irohkin and Abudu in Orhionmwon Local Government Area on September 29, 2025. The project, which has been met with enthusiasm from local residents, is expected to be completed by December 2025 and aims to improve transportation, facilitate market access for farmers, and curb rural-urban migration.
The new road promises to be a catalyst for economic growth by easing transportation challenges faced by farmers and traders in the area. It is poised to improve access to markets, thereby boosting agricultural productivity and income levels for residents. The initiative also aims to reduce rural-urban migration by providing better infrastructure to support local livelihoods.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Senator Imasuen, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, emphasized the importance of the project in addressing longstanding neglect of rural Communities. “This road is more than just infrastructure; it’s a means to empower farmers and strengthen Community bonds,” he stated. “We are on track to deliver this vital project by December 2025.”
The Project has garnered praise from various communities of Evbomede 1 and Evbomede 2 and Iguiya, hopeful that the new infrastructure would significantly ease their daily transportation challenges and improve access to markets. Stakeholders including Patrick Aisowieren, a Commissioner of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), described the initiative as a transformative development for local commerce and connectivity. Additionally, Chief Amadin Nicholas Ekhator, the Oliha of Oheze, expressed optimism about the road’s potential to uplift residents’ living standards and promote agricultural activities.
Imasuen’s commitment to rural development is part of a broader vision to reduce hardship and improve infrastructure across Edo South. He affirmed, “This is just the beginning; more projects are on the horizon to transform our communities.” The road project underscores the senator’s dedication to fostering sustainable growth and development in the region.
