FIC REPORT (LAGOS STATE) – President Kashim Shettima was in Lagos today (October 2, 2026) to commission the new corporate headquarters of Northwest Petroleum & Gas Company Limited. He was Special Guest of Honour and was expected to deliver the keynote address.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu joined him at the event, along with other government and private-sector leaders.
Announcing the Vice President’s arrival, his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, said the investment aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope drive to mobilise private capital, strengthen indigenous enterprise and make the private sector a major engine of economic growth.
He added that private-sector-led growth and investment mobilisation are key pillars of the Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026–2030, focused on jobs, productive capacity and a more competitive economy.
Speaking after the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu said: “It is encouraging to see major companies continue to invest in Lagos and contribute to the growth of our local economy. We will keep creating an environment where businesses can grow and thrive.”
NorthWest Petroleum is an indigenous petroleum products marketing company with experience in the export, import, trading, storage and supply of crude oil and refined petroleum products. It was founded in 1998 by Winifred Akpani, who serves as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.
Akpani, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, was elected chairman of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) in 2019.
The company’s previous head office was at Plot 202, Etim Inyang Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos. In 2023, it commissioned a lubricant blending plant at Ijegun-Egba, Satellite Town, and a 20-nozzle mega retail station in Maryland, Lagos. The blending plant later earned ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certifications.
Separately, the Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld the company’s claim to a 69.6% equity stake in the Ede Marginal Field.
The new headquarters is the latest sign of private-sector confidence in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, and of what a founder-led indigenous energy company can build over nearly three decades.
