Solid Minerals: MMSD Marks APSD, Fetes Its 2021 Retirees

It was an occasion of memorable gathering, when the management and staff of Mines and Steel Development assembled at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja to celebrate the Africa Public Service Day (APSD) and felicitate with the 2021 Ministry’s Retirees.

In his address at the occasion, the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, MMSD, Arc. Olamilekan Adegbite disclosed that with the immense inputs of the management, staff and agencies in the realization of the Ministry’s mandate, the Solid Mineral Sector has contributed to the current growth of GDP of the Federal government beating its old record.

Dr. Adegbite described the occasion as a well deserved one that is worth celebrating, noting that for every kudos given to service in the Ministry, it calls for a higher duty and improvement in what has been acheived. He appealed that the Ministry must surpass the goals of 2020 this year.

While congratulating the Awardees and Retirees, he stressed that there is no work that is insignificant and urged the the entire Management, Staff & agencies to work as a team in order to take the Sector to greater heights.

Speaking also at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, among other things, said the African Public Service Day, (APSD), is driven within the Agenda 2063, which is Africa’s blue print and master plan for transforming Africa into the global power house of the future.

She challenged theMinistry’s workforce to remain focused and committed to efficient delivery of its mandates. According to her, the aim of the APS’ agenda of sharing best global practice in information dissemination has been made easier and reforms in the Public Service of Nigeria presently are technology driven.

She, therefore, urged the staff to embrace technology and digitalization as inevitable enablers of efficient service delivery in order to avoid being left behind or rendered irrelevant in the emerging digital Federal Civil Service.

In his contribution, the Director , Artisanal and Small Scale Mining (ASM) Mr. Patrick Ojeka, on behalf of the 2021 Awardees, expressed gratitude at the celebration of the Civil Service Day and thanked the Management of the Ministry for their support in making the event a success.

He praised the Ministry for appreciating the services of its workforce, adding that the Awards have given the staff more reason to strive harder in realising the set goals of the Ministry.

On behalf of the retirees, Engr. Kehinde Olabusuyi, Director, Metallurgical Inspectorate and Raw Material Development (MI & RMD)appreciated the Ministry’s recognition of their contributions towards the upliftment of the Ministry and Sector. He encouraged the staff to work with utmost dedication and efficiency in order to achieve the Ministry’s contributions to national growth.

Highlights of the event were the presentation of award of certificates & plagues to deserving outstanding Staff, presentation of gifts to the 2021 Retirees and cutting of the 2021 African Public Service Day celebration cake.
